THE VIEW FROM HEIMBU

JUNE 2001

According to Tony Blair we are now on the "homestretch" regarding the foot-and-mouth crisis; everything is under control. I expect the election to be called any day now.

Negotiation is the art of letting them have your way.

The local police force announced a weapon amnesti in Hull last month. To their suprise not a single weapon has been handed in. Knowing Hull I'm not suprised; you need to be armed to survive down there.

"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects." -Robert Heinlein

As expectred the general election is on. Hands are being shaken and babies are being kissed. Heaven help us all.

Things are at least picking up a little bit; a local farmer who doesn,t have any livestock has given me permission to fly Bronwen, as he is being overrun by rabbits.
My only problem now is I'm running out of freezerspace.

As I am writing this the election is over, and as expected we have another landslide for New Labour, even if less than a quarter of the electorate actually cast a vote for them. The election campaign has been incredibly boring apart from "Prescott's Jab," but at least we can now get some peace and quiet again.

A new Countryside department is being put in place. It's brief reportedly is to get it across to the farmers that their job is no longer food production. Instead they are to become "Custodians of the Countryside". Presumably they are supposed to pose for photographs chewing on a straw, before picking up the litter the ramblers on a daytrip out of town have left behind.

If you are reading this we have now regained access to the Heimbu webpages. For several months now we have not been able to upload new stuff, but this should now finally be sorted.

Moggie, the Heimbu cat, seems to have taken on an apprentice. For the last few weeks we have noticed that a black and white kitten seems to be following him where-ever he goes, and yesterday they were both in the kitchen sharing Moggies's food. My wife has named him Deshi, which is Japanese for apprentice.

If this month's View is a bit shorter than usual, blame it on my wife. She is going through a major re-design of the garden, and I seem to be spending most of my time outside digging. I hate gardening.

Time is rapidly approaching for this year's Summer Course and Summer-thing. Hopefully they will be our most successful yet.
