Welcome to Heimbu, the headquarter of the International Stav Association, and the local Stav Hov for Beverley.
Heimbu is situated on Swinemoor Estate on the outskirts of the small market town of Beverley in the East Riding of Yorkshire. It was established in 1992 when the Hafskjold family bought a former surgery. Through the years we have tried to transform the garden into a place of beauty and tranquility, where people are welcome to rest and meditate, and we are now in the process of converting the excisting stables into an indoor training and meditation hall.
So what then is a Stav Hov? That depends on the Master of the Hov. It can be a Health Clinic, a Meditation Centre, a Craft Centre or a Martial Arts school.
At Heimbu we concentrate on teaching Stav as moving meditation and a spiritual way of life. It is also run as a Complementary Health Clinic specializing in treating depression and stress-related ailments, asthma and allergies and also back pain and artheritis. We are also great believers in preventive medicine, and will work with clients to try to get to the root of a problem, and also to prevent problems from occurring in the first place.
Meditation and lifestyle classes are held at Heimbu on Wednesdays from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and are open to everyone.
On Saturdays Martial Arts are being taught from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00p.m., and both beginners and advanced students are welcome, but it will generally not be suitable for children below 12 years of age.
Once a year, on either the last Saturday of July or the first Saturday of August, Heimbu is hosting a fair and get-to-know-each-other meeting, both for the local community and for the world-wide Stav community.
Heimbu is also involved locally in the Swinemoor Estate Residents Association, The Swinemoor Youth Project and in a students exchange scheme between Beverley and Fukuoka in Japan.
Heimbu also publishes a monthly column on the Internet called the View from Heimbu.
